Conditions attached
- Capped at 200 rented nights a year.
- One STR business license per licensee citywide (entities under common ownership count as one person). Buildings with 10 or fewer dwelling units: one license per building. Buildings with more than 10 units: licenses for up to 10% of units. One license per dwelling unit; non-transferable.
- Licence must be obtained before advertising or accepting bookings (effective July 1, 2026; unlicensed operation carries $1,000 civil penalty accruing every 7 days). Only allowed in zones MU2, MU3, MU5, MU6, MU8, MU11, M1, M1-A, D1, D2, D3, D4, GMU, RP, BP, A, JRF (generally not in residential zones). Minimum stay 2 consecutive nights. 200-night cap per licence period. At least one off-street parking stall for exclusive use of guests. Local contact person living or with an office in Salt Lake County, reachable 24 hours and responding within 2 hours. Self-certification of building, fire and safety standards (city may inspect on referral, cause or complaint). Written landlord or HOA consent if applicable. Licence number must appear in every listing and be posted at the unit. Agents cannot hold licences unless they are the bona fide owner. No licence if the property or owner has an unresolved nuisance citation or outstanding Title 18/21A violations. Three verified violations in 12 months can trigger suspension. Transient room taxes must be collected and remitted. Fees: $342 per-unit fee applies to short-term rental property; the $198 base business licence fee is listed for all business classes (Commercial, Booth Rental, Residential Rental) effective Sept 2026 (was $193).
